JACKSON TRAIL BLAZER
GALLOWAYS

"A variety of factors seem to be
negatively affecting quality
grades. Some theorize that the
beef industry may have too
many different genetic lines to
select from when it comes to
cattle breeding, while others
blame indiscriminate
crossbreeding. And trends or
fads that producers chased
several years ago are showing
up in quality-grade decline
today."

Drover's Journal 2006

Don't be a follower. Be a leader.
Galloway cattle will fix all the
problems listed above. Just
because all your neighbors are
raising a certain breed of cattle
doesn't make them right.

GALLOWAYS ARE ON THE MOVE

Here at the Jackson Trail Blazer Ranch we offer registered and hybrid Galloways.
Some of the hybrids are belted. The registered herd offers red (like red Angus in
color), black, silver dun (like a Charolais in color), and dun (like a Angus x
Charolais in color).

Why Galloways?:

Heterosis for a fraction of the cost.
Better flavor, marbling, tenderness and overall
carcass traits then Angus.
A gentle disposition yet Galloways will out graze any
breed.

Galloways are easy to manage:

Here on the ranch we only feed hay or cake 60 days out of the year. That's right
60 days during calving season. These cows are real doers, they know how to
forage. They will graze species of plants that other cattle wouldn't touch.
We keep extensive records and have a well regulated vaccination program.

Hybrids:

Our hybrid herd is mostly made up of Hereford and Galloway genetics at this
time. However we now have some Shorthorn calves. These are out of Galloway
or Galloway x Hereford cows. We also have some Gelbvieh blood.
Club calves
anyone?
A Galloway steer won the Powell County, Wyoming fair last year! This
year a Galloway steer took third in the carcass competition at the NILE. The
heterosis and carcass traits in these carefully selected breeds is explosive. And
they are all of gentle disposition so you won't have to worry about your kids being
drug around the fair.

So you think you're raising purebreds?

According to the July 2006 Beef Magazine article, What is a breed?, Galloways
and Scotch Highlanders are the only truly purebred herds left. Any guesses and
what most breeds are crossed with? Galloways. Especially in the British based
breeds, such as Angus and Shorthorn, Galloway genetics have been used to
improve their herd books.
"Galloway originated in southwest Scotland's Galloway Province. When the
Romans first populated England, cattle roamed the region's forests. These
indigenous cattle became the progenitors of the Galloway. Today, Galloway
are recognized as the oldest breed of beef cattle in the British Isles."
If nothing else just the extra time of being an established breed has led to the
improved genetics. Those small farms in Scotland would take there best
heifers down the road to breed to the best bull around. All the other breeds are
using AI and Embryos today to try and catch up.
So ask yourself do you want to join the masses and try to catch up or own the
original and best?
