Weaning weights are low because the herd was on mature crested wheat grass
all summer. Crested wheat looses most of its forage value when it cures out. The
herd had mineral but no forage supplements. It was the only pasture I had
available so I could use different sires. Also I select sires for yearling weights
before weaning weights because that fits my operation goals.

| GALLOWAY FEMALES ARE THE BEST It doesn't matter if you have F1 crosses, full-bloods, or crossbreds you will have a better female. TheGalloway Association kicked the Angus out of the herd book, in England, in the 1800s. Why? Angus is considered an inferior line of Galloways. Galloways milk better, graze better, mother better, and have a way better disposition. There is no reason to choose Angus over Galloway. Worried about long hair or industry trends? When crossbred, the hair shortens dramatically. And cattle buyers can't tell the difference between a Galloway or an Angus crossbred. All they know is they bought the best carcassing Angus they've ever seen. |
